Leo "Yock" Henninger

Yock Henninger was the referee for 16 of Harry Greb's fights. Yock was also a fighter and boxing manager. He was even the manager of one of Harry Greb's opponents, Mickey Rodgers. Before the turn of the century Yock was a boxer himself. Below is an article from The Pittsburgh Press talking about how Yock met an old opponent of his on the street (Jack McClelland) then the promoter for one of their fights met up with them (M.J. Connolly).

Jack McClelland and Yock Henniger were fanning fight on Fifth ave. the other night when M.J. Connelly chanced to pass by. Back in the late nineties Connolly gaffed Henniger against Mac in several famous frays. The meeting revived memories of a scrap on a boat wherin Billy Bradburn was the third individual in the circle. McClelland's meal ticket arm went back on him after 20 frames. A draw was suggested. The referee agreed that the "young men had fought suffiently to satisfy any human being" and declared a dead heat. Later on a return rumpus was arranged . Connolly's yarn started the buzzers. For half an hour the veterans of scrapiana in this city nearly 2 decades ago spun stories of the good old hours when purse pounds were held on boats that were announced "to run 25 miles down the river" but usually tied up within a square of either McKees Rocks or Glenwood. "Dem was de days."
