Corporal Baker (from South Africa)
During the war Corporal Baker of South Africa had a service bout in London against Harry Greb. Baker was a lightheavyweight while Greb was a middleweight. This fight took place in the Anglo-American services boxing tournament.
Originally the newspapers stated that Harry Greb fought "Corporal Green of South Africa", but a day later all the newspapers started to write "Corporal Baker of South Africa". I don't know any further information about this error. The following newspapers are just a few that stated the opponent was originally "Corporal Green" when they printed their articles on December 11, 1918:
The Daily Northwestern (Wisconsin)
The Sandusky Star Journal (Ohio)
Evening State Journal & Lincoln Daily News (Nebraska)
