Jimmy Delaney fought many of the great Hall of Famers during his time such as Tommy Loughran, Gene Tunney, Harry Greb, Maxie Rosenbloom and Benny Ross. He was talented enough to battle heavyweights, light heavyweights, and middleweights.
Jimmy died in 1927 of blood poisoning at the age of only 24. He got a cut on his arm, and resin that they used to put on boxing gloves got in his blood. He died a few weeks later. At the time of his death he had a wife and two kids.
