Hugh Walker
Hugh Walker fought many of the great Hall of Famers during his time in Exhibition bouts and pro fights. The Hall of Famers include Jess Willard, Sam McVey, Packey McFarland, Mike Gibbons, Tommy Gibbons, Harry Greb, Sam Langford and Jack Dillon. He was known to use the name Hughey Walker by the "Indianapolis Star Newspaper.
On January 8, 1923 in Oklahoma City Hugh Walker fought Jimmy Delaney. The fight wound up in a twelve round no decision but the newspaper account gave the decision to Delaney. The fight was the feature event at a huge celebration in connection with the inauguration of Governor Walton of Oklahoma. The promoter had tired to get the services of Harry Greb and Gene Tunney. Strangely, both refused to meet Delaney, claiming illness. From all over the Southwest they came for the celebration and to see the Delaney-Walker fight. There were over fifty bands playing in Oklahoma City for the big party, and at the fair grounds there was a gigantic barbecue where 3,000 head of cattle, buffalo and deer were roasted.
