Tommy Burke
Tommy Burke was a middleweight who fought such great fighters as Harry Greb, Leo Houck, and Battling Levinsky.
The Syracuse Herald on June 3, 1917 had this to say about Tommy Burke, before his fight with Young Fisher: "Burke is said to be a boxer who wades right into an opponent and keeps slugging. He has an exceptionally fine record and it is expected that he will give Fisher a beating." That issue also wrote: "Burke has been boxing since 1914 and has yet to be knocked out, although he has met the best middleweights in the country. He has been outpointed several times but he has won four-fifths of his ring battles. He has fought the majority of his mills in St. Louis, Mo., but since January 1916, he has engaged in a number of scraps in Buffalo, Rochester, New York and Brooklyn. At the present time Burke is managed by Allie Smith of Buffalo, and he is making his home in the Bison City."
